Ski holidays in Lucerne with the whole family

Outside, snow is falling, the children are standing at the window with sparkling eyes, and the only question is: which ski resort shall it be today? From our holiday apartment in Dierikon, you can reach the most beautiful ski resorts in Central Switzerland in 45 to 60 minutes. No stress with long journeys. Simply get in the car or on the train and go.

And if a day off the slopes is in order, you stay in the warm living room, play with the children or explore the wintry city of Lucerne. This is what ski holidays feel like when you can truly enjoy them.

Ski resorts that families love

Engelberg-Titlis is the largest ski resort in the region and only around 45 minutes away by car. With 82 kilometres of slopes, there is something for every level. For the little ones, there is a dedicated beginners’ area on Gerschnialp with gentle slopes and practice lifts, right next to the car park. The local ski school teaches even the smallest skiers how to turn. If you prefer to travel by train, take the Zentralbahn from Lucerne and you will be in Engelberg in around 1 hour 30 minutes.

Melchsee-Frutt is considered one of the most family-friendly ski resorts in Central Switzerland. The car-free plateau at 1920 metres offers wide, well-arranged slopes and a children’s area where even the very young can move around safely. The drive takes around 60 minutes.

For a relaxed half-day on the slopes, Moerlialp above Giswil is a great choice. The small, affordable ski resort is reachable in 50 minutes from Lucerne, the car park is right next to the lifts, and the ski school is specifically geared towards families.

Soerenberg in the Entlebuch offers around 60 kilometres of slopes for every ability. There are also toboggan runs, snowshoe tours and cross-country skiing trails. The drive takes around 60 minutes.

If you prefer something even smaller, Rigi offers gentle slopes and panoramic cross-country trails with views of Lake Lucerne. The journey by cogwheel railway from Vitznau or Goldau is already an adventure in itself for children.

Not just skiing

Ski holidays with young children rarely mean six hours on the slopes in one go. That is exactly why our holiday apartment is the perfect base. One day you ski in Engelberg, the next day you build a snowman on Rigi. You explore the wintry old town of Lucerne or take a boat trip on Lake Lucerne.

In Engelberg, besides the slopes, there are also toboggan runs, winter hiking trails and the Titlis Cliff Walk at over 3000 metres. The ride on the rotating Rotair cable car is an experience in itself, even without a single turn in the snow.

And on rainy days or when little legs are tired? The Swiss Museum of Transport in Lucerne, the Aeschbach Chocolatier in Root or a cosy afternoon in the apartment with games, books and films are waiting.
