Family holidays in Lucerne and on Lake Lucerne
Our holiday apartment is located in Dierikon, in the Rontal valley between Lucerne and Zug. From here, you can reach the most beautiful destinations in Central Switzerland quickly and easily, whether mountains, lake, culture or indoor adventures on rainy days. We have tested the experiences ourselves with our son Paul and put together our favourites for you.
Holidays by season
Every season brings its own programme in Central Switzerland. We have created dedicated pages for the most popular travel periods, where you will find everything you need for planning.
In winter, the ski resorts around Engelberg, Melchsee-Frutt and Soerenberg are calling. Whether beginners or advanced, whether on the slopes or tobogganing: the mountains of Central Switzerland offer snow fun for the whole family. Find out more on our page Ski holidays in Lucerne.
Lucerne Carnival is one of the biggest and most vibrant carnivals in Switzerland. From Dirty Thursday to Guedis Tuesday, the city transforms into a colourful festival with parades, brass bands and costumes. The Chendermonschter is an unforgettable experience, especially for children. More on our page Lucerne Carnival.
One of the most beautiful day trips takes you by boat across Lake Lucerne and by cogwheel railway up Mount Rigi. At the top, a panorama across lakes and Alps awaits, along with an easy hike and lunch with a view. Our page A Day on Lake and Mountain shows the full route and how to book at the best price.
The Golden Round Trip to Mount Pilatus is one of the great experiences in Central Switzerland. Five modes of transport in a single day, including the steepest cogwheel railway in the world and a boat cruise across Lake Lucerne. Pilatus is extremely popular, however, and without a reservation the wait at the cogwheel railway can exceed several hours. Our page The Golden Round Trip to Mount Pilatus shows you the best route and how to secure tickets and seats in advance.
Autumn in Central Switzerland is mild, colourful and quiet. The mountain railways are still running, the hiking trails are empty, and the forests glow in every colour. Ideal for families who want to experience the region without the summer crowds. Our page Autumn holidays with children shows you what to expect.
If you want to combine work and family holidays, our apartment offers the ideal setting. Fast Wi-Fi, a quiet location and the most beautiful destinations right on your doorstep. Find out more on our page Workation in Lucerne.
Our highlights for families
Pilatus (30 min away)
Lucerne’s local mountain offers adventure playgrounds, a summer toboggan run and ibex on the summit, all in a single day. Various round trips by cogwheel railway, gondola and boat make the outing manageable even for young children.

Travel across the lake on a historic paddle steamer and take in the mountain scenery along the way. The boat trip combines perfectly with a mountain excursion, for example to Rigi or Pilatus.
Goldau Wildlife Park (30 min away)
Native animals in spacious enclosures with a free-roaming zone, barbecue areas and playgrounds. A place where the whole family can spend a relaxed day without having to plan anything.
Swiss Museum of Transport (20 min away)
The most visited museum in Switzerland with interactive exhibitions, a planetarium and a film theatre. Even rainy days become an adventure here.
Aeschbach Chocolatier (5 min away)
Experience chocolate: pour your own creations, enjoy the cafe and then stroll through the Hasliwald forest. All just five minutes from our front door.
Lucerne Old Town (20 min away)
Chapel Bridge, winding lanes and the Musegg Wall with its walkable towers. The compact old town is easy to explore, even with a pushchair.
Rigi (45 min away)
Panoramic hiking with a mountain restaurant and mineral bath at Rigi Kaltbad. The Queen of the Mountains offers views, indulgence and relaxation in a single day.
Freiruum Zug (25 min away)
Indoor playground, trampoline park and market hall under one roof. The rescue for rainy days and a favourite with children of all ages.
